About Brain Bee Belgium
Connecting Belgian students with neuroscience
About Brain Bee Belgium
Brain Bee Belgium is established as part of the International Brain Bee (IBB), a global neuroscience competition for high school students founded in 1998 by Dr. Norbert Myslinski at the University of Maryland, USA. The IBB’s mission is to inspire young minds to learn about the brain and to pursue careers in neuroscience — ultimately contributing to the understanding, treatment, and cure of brain disorders. Today, the IBB reaches over 50 countries, connecting local, national, and international efforts into a worldwide network of future neuroscientists.
The Belgian Brain Bee is organised under the auspices of the Belgian Society for Neuroscience (BSN), hosted by the University of Antwerp, and co-organised with VIB-CMN and the UAntwerp Core Facilities NSF and BIOMINA. Brain Bee Belgium Championship selects Belgium’s representative for the IBB World Championship. See below for more info about the international championship!
What does the Belgian competition look like?
Students are tested through:
- A written test covering a broad range of neuroscience topics
- An oral quiz where students answer questions in front of an audience and a panel of judges
Questions span brain anatomy, neural pathways, neurological disorders, and cutting-edge neuroscience research.
How does it work?
All registered students compete directly in the Belgian Brain Bee Championship, and the national winner earns the right to represent Belgium at the IBB World Championship.
Why participate?
- Deepen your understanding of the brain and neuroscience
- Meet fellow students who share your passion for brain science
- Connect with professional scientists and researchers
- Represent Belgium on the international stage
- Spark a career in neuroscience research or medicine
The International Brain Bee
The IBB has grown into a major event in the global neuroscience community. Beyond the competition itself, it fosters collaboration and communication between students, educators, and scientists from around the world, building a community that extends well beyond the championship.
