What is the International Brain Bee?

The International Brain Bee (IBB) is a neuroscience competition for high school students around the world. Founded in 1998, the Brain Bee aims to motivate young people to learn about the brain and to inspire them to pursue careers in neuroscience.

The competition consists of:

  • A written test covering topics in neuroscience
  • An oral quiz where students answer questions in front of an audience and a panel of judges

Questions span topics including brain anatomy, neural pathways, neurological disorders, and current neuroscience research.

Brain Bee Belgium

Brain Bee Belgium is the national hub for the International Brain Bee in Belgium. We organise the Belgian Brain Bee Championship, which selects the Belgian representative for the International Brain Bee World Championship.

The competition is organised by the VIB Center for Molecular Neurology in close collaboration with Belgian universities and research institutes.

How does it work?

  1. Local competitions are held at schools and universities across Belgium.
  2. The winners of each local competition advance to the Belgian Brain Bee Championship.
  3. The Belgian national winner competes at the International Brain Bee World Championship.

Why participate?

  • Deepen your knowledge of neuroscience
  • Meet other students passionate about brain science
  • Connect with professional scientists and researchers
  • Represent Belgium on an international stage
  • Inspire a career in neuroscience research or medicine
